The Debian GNU/Linux operating system is a moving target. Even though the book is primarily based on Debian sarge, it is my intention to keep you up to speed with pertinent changes in the system (or the project). Should you be tracking testing or unstable, or by the time that the next release, etch, comes out, several points raised and techniques described in this book will be improved or replaced with better implementations. The following are such changes which have happened since the official release of the book in June 2005, sorted by chapter and page number. Click on the short description to see the details.

If you notice any change not listed here, please do not hesitate to let me know!

To stay up-to-date on changes to the Debian system, you may want to consider subscribring to the changes RSS feed, or the RSS feed which aggregates the changes and the errata.

Feedback

Ladislav Bodnar, Distrowatch: I have always enjoyed computer books [...] The Debian System - Concepts And Techniques will go down as one of the greatest of them all - the one that I will certainly keep on the table for a long time before I put it up on the shelf, but even then, it will never be far from reach. An absolute must for all users of Debian and Debian derivatives, and a proud addition to any Linux user's book collection. Highly recommended.
